Paul Hyman — Specialist in Neuroplasticity, Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Stroke Recovery, and Trauma Resolution

Paul Hyman is an internationally recognized expert in neuroplasticity, brain injury rehabilitation, stroke recovery, trauma intervention, and integrative wellness. With more than three decades of global experience in clinical practice, wellness consulting, and therapeutic program development, he has made enduring contributions to the fields of neurological recovery, somatic intervention, and trauma-informed care.

As the Founder and CEO of Brain Fitness International (BFI), Paul established Canada’s first comprehensive Brain Fitness Program for older adults, advancing national standards for cognitive vitality and age-related neuro-resilience. In 2020, he introduced “Hymanizing for Harmony,” a groundbreaking, non-verbal, movement-based methodology designed to activate neuroplastic processes, strengthen emotional regulation, and enhance psychological resilience. His FUNN Program provides trauma-sensitive support for children affected by domestic violence, while his long-running PENG-911 initiative has delivered specialized crisis management services to professionals for more than 17 years.

Paul’s clinical background includes a decade at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), one of the world’s leading psychiatric and research hospitals. During his tenure, he co-authored the influential text Becoming Trauma Informed and published peer-reviewed research on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and substance use disorders. His outstanding contributions were recognized with CAMH’s prestigious Nath Nayar Award for Excellence.

In addition to his clinical and research accomplishments, Paul brings a unique artistic dimension to his work. He spent 15 years as a professional trombonist—including nine seasons with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra—an experience that informs his integrative approach to performance psychology, expressive therapies, and somatosensory learning.

As a dynamic keynote speaker and educator, Paul has partnered with leading organizations such as the Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Toronto District School Board, and Toronto Employment & Social Services, delivering high-impact training on neuroplasticity, resilience, trauma-informed practice, and self-regulation.

Paul holds certifications in clinical hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), Trager® psychophysical integration, Reiki, and several additional somatic and therapeutic modalities. His practice integrates evidence-informed neuroscience with somatic awareness, mind-body interventions, and accessible psychoeducation, offering a comprehensive framework for sustainable wellness across the lifespan. His humanitarian initiatives include community development work with Indigenous populations in Northern Canada, advancing equity in health, education, and empowerment.
