13 Rapid Trauma-Relief Movements Program

Addressing the Post-Pandemic Mental Health Crisis with Evidence-Informed, Accessible Solutions

As of 2025, global mental health challenges continue to rise in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, with no indication of stabilizing. Individuals and communities are navigating unprecedented levels of uncertainty, instability, and stress. In Canada, the demand for mental health services far exceeds available resources, leaving many individuals without timely access to trauma-informed support.

Brain Fitness International (BFI) offers an efficient, accessible, and preventative solution designed specifically to address this growing need.

BFI works in partnership with educators, health and social service professionals, community organizations, and philanthropic donors to expand the availability of trauma-responsive care across Canada. This national initiative seeks to restore safety, trust, and hope by equipping individuals and communities with effective, easy-to-implement strategies for rapid stabilization and recovery. Through collaborative action, we can provide consistent, reliable trauma relief using BFI’s clinically tested methods.

13 Rapid Trauma-Relief Movements: A Reliable Solution During Crisis and Chaos

In moments of crisis or acute distress, individuals often experience narrow windows of awareness in which intentional action is possible. BFI’s 13 Rapid Trauma-Relief Movements are designed precisely for these moments, offering a practical and highly effective method for reducing the immediate impact of traumatic stress.

Applying even a few of these techniques enables individuals to recover more smoothly, rebound more quickly, and significantly reduce—if not prevent—the long-term consequences associated with untreated traumatic stress.

Program Overview

This trauma-informed wellness program consists of 13 simple, physical, neuroplasticity-based skills that require less than five minutes to learn and under two minutes to practice. Despite their simplicity, these techniques deliver measurable grounding, emotional relief, and cognitive stabilization.

Key Program Features

Simplicity
These techniques are accessible to virtually anyone—children as young as five can learn and share them. The skills provide rapid grounding and centering during, or immediately after, a crisis.

Maximum Effectiveness
To strengthen impact, the techniques can be practiced individually or in combinations of two or three, depending on the needs of the moment.

Enhanced Resilience Through Neuroplasticity
Based on the principle “Fire it, wire it!”, the program leverages neuroplastic mechanisms to build long-term emotional and cognitive resilience.

Actionable and Immediate
These skills deliver near-instant relief, making them ideal for use during the brief moments in which individuals remain functional during crisis or chaos.

Over 30 Years of Clinical Application
Each movement has been applied and refined over more than three decades in clinical, educational, and crisis-response settings. The program is grounded in evidence-based neuroscience and real-world field experience.

Universality
This body-centered, movement-based, multisensory approach is suitable for all multicultural and Indigenous communities. Materials are provided in concise, easily translatable formats.

Support for First Responders
First Responders benefit from rapid, effective self-regulation skills that can be applied before, during, and after emergency interventions.

Support for Suicide Helpline Operators
Operators assisting callers in crisis can use these techniques to regulate their own nervous systems during and after difficult calls.
